Donatello - Early Period - 1916
This "Romanesque" line is attributed to Harry W. Rhead. It was produced for more than 10 years in approximately one hundred different forms, in combinations of ivory and brown, ivory, green, and brown, or ivory, lavender and brown. All forms feature vertical ribs in ivory with a band of cherubs on a light brown background. The early production line was in a matte glaze, later production runs tended to be more glossy.
Most, but not all, of the forms have an irregular rim due to the vertical ribs extending upward to form the rim.
You can find unmarked pieces, as well as pieces with either the "RV" ink stamp or the impressed "Donatello R.P. Co.".
Those with the ivory and brown or ivory, brown and lavender are more difficult to find.
More in-depth detail is available in any one of the books in the Bibliography.
